It’s me! And my first ever YouTube video. Hurray!

"[I]t is illegal for women to go topless in most cities, yet you can buy a magazine of a woman without her top on at any 7-11 store. So, you can sell breasts, but you cannot wear breasts, in America."

Violet Rose, in Three Steps to Better Sex (via muffdiver)

This reminds me of the post going around which contrasted the pathologizing of public breastfeeding with the gratuitous, objectifying images of women’s breasts that can be found in advertising.

The legal and social message is that our bodies are for purchase and exchange between men—and their liberty to buy us and sell us should never be infringed! NOT EVER! FIRST AMENDMENT! FIRST AMENDMENT!—not for us to do with as we please. Never that!

"Although most boys figure out how to bring themselves to orgasm by age thirteen, half of girls don’t have their first orgasms until their late teens, twenties, or beyond. Teenage girls widely agree that they get the message loud and clear that masturbation is something boys do, but girls don’t, can’t, or shouldn’t. The cultural focus on intercourse tells young women to expect they’ll begin to experience sexual pleasure once they have sex with a man (whether or not they’re even interested in sex with men). Nearly all teen boys, on the other hand, experience sexual pleasure long before they get their hands—or other body parts—into a partner’s pants. Despite the massive advances in women’s equality, young women’s sexuality is stuck in a surprising paradox. Young women are sold provocative clothes but aren’t taught where to find their own clitoris. Many girls give their boyfriends oral sex, but are too uncomfortable with their own bodies to allow the guys to return the favor. It’s still a radical act to say that women need and deserve access to information about their own sexual pleasure—not just about the risks and negative consequences of sex."

[TW rape culture] Women refuses to give raped daughter EC, brags about it on internet. →

The cruelty of this defies explanation.

And if denying emergency contraception to one’s sexually assaulted child isn’t bad enough, denying it to one’s sexually assaulted child who happens to be mentally disabled and therefore may not understand what her own mother is doing to her, is even worse.

Moral of the story: don’t deny EC to your children. And don’t treat your children like infants just because they have a mental disability. a;lskfj;alsdkfj;asdlkf

Oh, and also, Plan B is neither abortion nor murder. Learn some fucking basic biology.

Disgusting

Just… no.

A woman’s body is a beautiful work of art, & it is her choice & her choice alone how much skin she wishes to show. Dehumanizing a woman & labeling her a “slut” or “whore” with no morals based on that choice is not a negative reflection on her, but on the bigot who is judging her.

“In this society, if a man is called a woman, that’s the biggest insult he could get.” He arches his eyebrows skeptically and asks, “Is that because women are considered something less?”
“It seems the world is still more titillated by a man who wants to become a woman’ than it is by ’ a woman who wants to become a man.’ The first is scandalous, the latter is taken for granted. This reflects the very different levels of privilege men and women have in our society. Of course women want to be men, the general attitude seems to be, and of course they can’t. And that’s that.”

the thing is it’s not a surprise when someone doesn’t find something like that attractive

when people say stuff like that i feel like going YOU DON’T SAY?!?! REALLY?? YOU DON’T LIKE ANYTHING THAT DEVIATES FROM THE GENDER NORMS THE PATRIARCHY HAS SCRIPTED FOR US? WHAT A…

Yes. Jesus. It’s as if straight men with mainstream tastes truly don’t realize that life is an education in their mainstream tastes. Every moment of television. Practically all films ever. Family gatherings where your aunt comments on how you’ve lost weight and look “better.” Practically the entire Internet. Every. moment. So that when a woman who’s hairy or fat or in anyway departs from beauty culture standards looks in the mirror she sees herself, her body, & her own decisions about how she wants to look but she also hears the echo of all those damn voices. All the images she does not resemble. All the times she’s seen a person like her in media just so they could be humiliated & denigrated. So that everyone can learn good and proper to react with disgust when they see a body like hers.

She doesn’t need you to add to the chorus. If she’s non-traditional in her looks, it’s not an accident. She’s not made a mistaken and oops forgotten to please you with her body. She’s made a decision that was hard and painful and brave.

Leave her the fuck alone if you’re not into that. Everything isn’t about you.

Also, to the guy in my Spanish class who felt the need to comment on Frida Kahlo being “ugly” when we watched a documentary on her: fuck you. None of us were there to hear what makes your dick happy. And some of us really love Frida Kahlo.

Here’s a tip for the do-it-yourself crowd:
Go to your computer’s Start menu, and either go to
“run” or just search for “cmd.”
Open it up, and type in “ping [website address],”

Once you have the IP for a website, all you really
need to do is enter it like you would
a normal URL nd hit enter/press go. Typing in
 “208.85.240.231”
should bring you to the front page of AO3,
for example, just as typing “174.121.194.34/dashboard”
should bring you straight to your Tumblr dashboard.
Since we’re obviously bracing for the worst case scenario
which would involve you not being
able to access the internet regularly, you should,
 save this list.

Dear Tumblr-ers, -ites, ettes, and whatever other things you may prefer,

Please reblog the crap out of this. Add to it if you feel there is stuff necessary but missing.

P.S. Thank you to the lovely who wrote this up.

For any American followers!

When the topic of misogyny comes up, and men change the subject, it trivializes misogyny.

When the topic of misogyny comes up, and men change the subject, it conveys the message that whatever men want to talk about is more important than misogyny.

When the topic of misogyny comes up, and men change the subject to something that’s about them, it conveys the message that men are the ones who really matter, and that any harm done to men is always more important than misogyny.

And when the topic of misogyny comes up, and men change the subject, it comes across as excusing misogyny. It doesn’t matter how many times you say, “Yes, of course, misogyny is terrible.” When you follow that with a “Yes, but…”, it comes across as an excuse. In many cases, it is an excuse. And it contributes to a culture that makes excuses for misogyny.

Me too. And, more than that, I’m sick of the people using it.
Women are told almost constantly—by the media, the government, and the overall attitude of society—that our bodies don’t fucking belong to us. The mythical friendzone is just another way for misogynists to enforce that idea while getting to play the victim.
It sucks when someone you have feelings for doesn’t share those feelings; it happens to women all the time, too. We hear “I just want to be friends” and “you’re like one of the guys” and “you’re like a sister to me” just as often. But you’ll never hear a woman complain that guys just don’t appreciate a Nice Girl because we’re taught it’s our own fucking fault when we’re rejected—we aren’t pretty enough or thin enough or sexy enough, we weren’t sexual enough or were too sexual, we put out too much or too little or too soon or not soon enough, we didn’t wear our hair the right way or our skirt the right length, we’re “too tomboyish” or “too butch” or “too feminine”, or we’re “not their type”, or we’re otherwise not good enough in various ways to entice the man to grace us with his affection.
But when we’re not interested in someone, we’re vilified. We’re the bitch that lead them on, the bitch who let them buy us dinner but didn’t want to date them, the bitch who doesn’t appreciate a nice guy, the bitch they were nice to and then got nothing in return from.
And, frankly, fuck those people. Showing interest in me, being friendly with me, getting close to me, or eating a meal with me (even if they paid for it) doesn’t obligate me to open my heart or my legs. And anyone who doesn’t appreciate my friendship sure as hell doesn’t deserve my love or my pussy.

BOOM.
